Huawei Marine Networks Co, Ltd. says it has finished installation of the Boracay and Palawan Submarine Cable System (BPSCS) in the Philippines for local carrier Globe. The 330-km submarine fiber-optic cable system comprises two segments. One links Boracay to Caticlan; the other connects Taytay, Palawan, and San Jose, Mindoro, with a branching unit towards the island of Coron.
This 12-fiber-pair systems brings optical communications capabilities to Boracay and Taytay and should support revenue growth by supporting service demand from business and tourism in the Palawan region.
The undersea fiber-optic network is part of a $700 million nationwide modernization effort. Globe now has a fiber footprint of 30,000 km that reaches across the archipelago — from Aparri to the Zamboanga region.
“This system will allow for the deployment of cutting edge communications services for the people, businesses and institutions of this country,” said Nigel Bayliff, CEO of Huawei Marine.
