Belitung is one of Indonesia’s emerging domestic destinations.

Archipelago International has expanded its 4-star Aston Hotel brand with the grand opening of the Aston Belitung Hotel on the island of Belitung, situated off of Sumatra’s east coast.

The new hotel, the 26th Aston Hotel in Indonesia, was officially opened by Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mrs. Mari Elka Pangestu and Bangka Belitung’s Governor, Mr. Rustam Effendi.

The hotel features 202 guest rooms and suites, several of which enjoy views of the nearby ocean. The hotel swimming pool also soaks up this beachfront vista, as do the handful of food and beverage outlets including a restaurant, coffee shop and a bar & lounge complete with karaoke facilities.

Belitung – a former tin mining center, is renowned for many things, namely its beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, pure white sandy bays dotted with dramatic granite boulders and the crystal clear sea water that surrounds it -served as the location for the famous Indonesian movie, Laskar Pelangi.

The main tourist spots on Belitung are found on the pristine beaches and offshore islets. The main beaches are Tanjung Tinggi Beach and Tanjung Kelayang Beach, both of which boast blue clear water, powdery sands and the signature rocky landscape. As for the islands/islets, Batu Berlayar Island (meaning Sailing Rock) is full of stunning granite structures while Lengkuas Island is the home of a 129 year-old lighthouse and a great place for snorkeling. Pasir Island is made of sand and is submerged during high tide, as is Bird Islet (Pulau Burong) which can be accessed from Tanjung Binga beach at low tide.

“Belitung is a fantastic destination due to its idyllic landscapes, breathtaking beaches and strategic locating just of Jakarta and Singapore. By introducing a hotel with previously unavailable 4-star service standards and top quality accommodations and facilities, we hope to attract an international clientele to Belitung and support its economic development ” said Norbert Vas, Archipelago’s VP for Sales & Marketing.
