India: Goa is very serious about coastal tourism development

The Times of India reports that Goa tourism means business.

Besides designating the Goa tourism development corporation as a special purpose vehicle for implementation of centrally and state-funded projects , the tourism department has also empanelled 14 project management consultants under A category for development of tourism properties in Goa.

This is just one step the government will take to improve tourism infrastructure in the state, and to enhance Goa’s reputation as a tourism hotspot. Official sources said that the government is considering various measures in this regard.

Another step is the setting up of a PGA standard golf course and allied hospitality activities, luxury cruise/floatel to boost quality tourists through private sector participation in North Goa, for which the process to obtain central assistance is underway.

Measures have also been initiated for the development of tourism infrastructure projects like heli-tourism, amphibian aircraft, Colva coastal circuit, Baga coastal circuit, Goa Haat, convention centre, institute of hotel management at Farmagudi, etc.

The ministry of tourism has appointed a state-level project management agency for the implementation of projects identified by the national level consultant across the state, and the department has executed an agreement with Ms Darashaw limited.

In order to ensure safety and security of tourists, the government has deployed Indian Reserve Battalion at all the beaches.
