Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said government would invite global tender for the proposed new international airport at Mopa in North Goa by March next year.

Citing environmental clearance as reason for delay in initiating bidding process, Parrikar said, “We are waiting for environmental impact assessment (EIA) report. Hopefully this will be cleared in a few months and by March 2013 we will invite bids to construct the facility.”

According to the chief minister, the airport which will draw an investment of over Rs 3,000 crore, will be ready in next four years.

“The The airport at Dabolim can handle only 4.5 million passengers. We would need the airport very soon. Many global players have already shown interests. We estimate the Mopa airport, on completion of all its phases, can handle 30 million passengers by 2045,” Parrikar said on the sideline of pan-IIT global conference here.
