Bisnis.com reports that Bali’s redeveloped Ngurah Rai International Airport is designed to handle 25 million passengers every year.

The general manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, Rai Purwanto, admitted the airport is currently overloaded. It presently handles 13.5 million domestic and international passengers, almost twice its pre-upgrade design capacity of 6-7 million travelers per year.

Airport upgrade is expected to come in at RPH2.8 trillion (USD280 million) and be completed by June 2013 in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference set for Bali.

When completed, the new airport will have 19 air bridges, an increase over the 8 air bridges now in operation.
